Micah's Eyes

Today was our first trip to the eye doctor since sometime last fall.  I was so nervous about what we would learn and I knew Micah would hate getting his eyes checked. The nurse has to forcibly hold his head still, which he despises!

The news wasn't as bad as I feared.  Nor was it surprising.  She didn't say anything about his ROP, just that his eyes look good, there's no crossing or wandering.  BUT, he is near-sighted.  Most babies' eyes are at +1.0 to +1.5.  Micah's left eye is at 0.0 and his right is at -1.50, which is the prescription I wear in my contacts.  She said that Micah will definitely need glasses.  I said, "When, not for at least a year, right?"  She said that if they were worse, she'd go ahead and have him in glasses already.  As he gets more mobile it will be important for him to be able to see where he's going and what's around him.  Our next checkup is in September.

We're not at all surprised by this information and new before leaving the hospital with him that he'd need glasses.  I think he's going to need them sooner than I had anticipated, though.  Jared and I both have corrective eyewear, so it was just a matter of time anyway.  Luckily, tiny babies in glasses are very adorable!  :)  We're looking forward to selecting some "cool" frames for him.

Bad bath!

Tonight I indulged in a rare treat, a bubble bath.  And, I went absolutely crazy with the bubbles.  After adding hot water to the tub a few times, I decided I was sufficiently wrinkled and sloshed out of the tub and dried off.  In the process, I knocked over two candles and spilled them down the back of my leg.  I'm fine.  But, that relaxing bath turned out to have the opposite effect.  I'll be more strategic with candle placement next time.

Okay, from now on we'll sign who wrote each post.

This one was written by Heather.  :)
